People call us for internal moves for all sorts of reasons — new flooring or carpet going down, a room being redecorated, a house being staged for sale, or simply wanting the piano somewhere it works better. It might look straightforward, but a piano is still hundreds of kilograms of awkward weight over your own floors, and that's exactly when things get scratched or dropped.

We bring the same skids, slippers and floor protection we'd use for a full house move, shift the instrument safely, and set it back down exactly where you want it.

Typical internal piano moves in Leeds

Most internal jobs we do around Leeds are everyday changes rather than full house moves — but each one still needs the piano lifted, balanced and set down without a mark on the floor or the instrument. Common ones include:

• Shifting an upright off a wall so new carpet or wood flooring can go down
• Moving a piano into another room after a redecoration or a change of use
• Taking a piano up or down a floor — a spare bedroom to the lounge, or vice versa
• Clearing a piano to one side so a room can be staged for a house sale, then putting it back

Why not just slide it on its castors?

It's the first thing most people try, and it's how floors and pianos get damaged. The small castors under an upright or grand are made for fine positioning, not for carrying the instrument's full weight across a room — they gouge wood and laminate, snag on carpet, and can shear off entirely under load. Older castors seize solid with age, so what feels like a gentle push puts real strain on the case and the leg it's mounted to. A grand is worse again: its weight sits on three legs that were never designed to be dragged, and a single catch on a rug or threshold can crack a leg or the lyre. We take the weight off the castors entirely, move the piano on proper skids and a dolly, and protect every floor surface it crosses.

Internal moves also tend to involve the trickiest few metres of the whole house — a tight turn on a half-landing, a doorway an inch too narrow, or a step down into a converted room. Those are the moments that need two experienced movers and the right kit, not willing hands, and they're exactly what we do day in, day out across Leeds.
